First-principles studies of electronic properties of real solids, bulk, surfaces, and interfaces:
  • Semiconductor/semiconductor and metal/semiconductor interfaces.
  • Calculation of potential barriers and alignment of energy levels in heterojunctions and their dependence on substrate, epitaxial strain, direction, intrinsic polarization. Tuning of ad hoc electronic properties for device applications.
  • Superconductivity: ab-initio studies of electronic properties of different compounds (high critical temperature materials and conventional superconductors); effects of dopants and substitutions.
  • Application and extension of density functional theory to the superconducting state.
  • Electronic and magnetic properties of magnetic semiconductors for applications in spintronics.
  • Low dimensional materials
